Roosevelt prepares students for social studies exam
On Saturday, April 20 one hundred ninety nine AP students gathered in the Roosevelt High School cafeteria to participate in the 5th annual Social Studies Mock AP exam. The Roosevelt Social Studies AP vertical team hosts this event in order to better prepare students who will sit for the US Government, Macroeconomics, World and United States history Advanced Placement exams in May.
Teachers Caesie McHenry, Mateo Macias, Christopher Williams, Janet Gensheimer, and Mary Thompson proctored the exams; social studies dean, Kimberly Rose and curriculum AP Lori Murach were on hand to welcome the students and facilitate the event.
“We believe the experience helps students gain a level of confidence that encourages them to break down barriers of intimidation and face the real exam head-on,” stated Murach.
“Attendance at the Mock Exam has grown steadily since we began doing it. It’s great to see kids taking ownership of their college readiness,” stated Williams.
The social studies AP vertical team is passionate about preparing students for the rigors of post-secondary education, and will offer additional courses in the coming years.
