A Choctaw storyteller visits Roan Forest

Choctaw storyteller

Choctaw storyteller, Tim Tingle, shows students a Native American drum.

The 3rd, 4th & 5th graders at Roan Forest Elementary School were honored to meet author, Tim Tingle. Known as a Choctaw storyteller, Tingle is a member of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma and an award-winning author of Native American fiction and folklore. His great-great grandfather, John Carnes, walked the Trail of Tears in 1835.

Tingle shared several stories with the students. His approach to storytelling fascinated all in attendance. Students proceeded to ask the great storyteller various questions regarding his works. Tingle shared his writing strategies and approaches with our Trailblazers. He emphasized the most critical aspect of becoming a good writer; perseverance-never give up!

When Tingle is not performing, he enjoys writing and relaxing on the shores of Canyon Lake.
