NEISD Central Office has new telephone numbers
North East ISD has completed the upgrade of the telephone system at the North East Education Center building (also known as the central office) and is upgrading the campus phone systems throughout the 2010-2011 and 2011-2012 school years. This upgrade allows the district to improve service, cut expenses and offer more functionality for employees.
A new district-wide system is necessary to improve phone service and communication -– vital links in customer service. Many schools routinely experienced phone outages where customers could not reach the school and/or school staff could not make calls out of the building. To solve this failure in customer service, the district began researching replacement options in 2005 and piloting an upgrade at its administrative building in 2010.
Upgrading the phone system will greatly reduce service failures as well as repair time. The new system has built-in redundancy that seamlessly reroutes calls to a working line if there is a failure. This redundancy will also reduce the occasions where a busy signal is received. District staff will have greater control and transparency in the upgraded system since it can be remotely managed any time from any Internet capable computer, consequently diminishing the reliance on a third party to restore service.
In addition to the improvements in service and reliability, a cost savings of about $120,000 per year will be realized by the district. The cost of adding new numbers would also be reduced to about 10 cents compared to the $20 cost per line with the current system.
To address customer service while the upgraded phone system implementation is occurring, existing main phone numbers will be automatically forwarded to the active new numbers for an entire year. A recording announcing the number change will be placed on some additional numbers as well as the main numbers when the forwarding process ceases. Additionally, all executive directors are overseeing their departments' implementation process to include sending phone number change notices to their contacts.
