Wood PALs host book drive, support H-E-B literacy program
Wood Middle School Peer Assistance Leadership students (PALs) partnered with H-E-B to further support a love of learning and literacy in young children. The PALs held a campus-wide book drive, collecting and donating 707 books to the Nacogdoches/O'Connor H-E-B Read 3 book drive.
In addition, the PALs put together a fantastic plan to encourage children to actively listen to stories read aloud and then retell them through puppets. They read children's books aloud in the store, focusing on early level comprehension. Then, the PALs helped children create a take-home puppet of a character from the story.
"The Wood PALs are very excited to serve the community alongside such a spectacular company and child literacy advocate as H-E-B," said Heather Guckian, PALs teacher.
