West avenue pledges to be drug and bully free
"I pledge that a healthy me is drug and bully free!" said more than 300 students together at a school rally, Friday, October 25. The West Avenue Elementary School students promised to live drug free and bully free. They spent the week learning about the dangers of drugs and why being a bully is not good for their community.
October is Bully Prevention Awareness Month and October 23-31 is Red Ribbon Week in Texas. The event was planned to honor both causes. Organizer Kristen Latronico-Limon said she hopes the school can do this every year.
Lee High School cheerleaders were there to perform cheers and dances for the students. The Lee High School PALS also helped blow up all the balloons and sit with students during the event.
After reciting their pledge, students helped their teachers launch biodegradable balloons into their air as a symbol of their promise to live a healthy, safe life.
