PTA's Used book sale begins
Great books at a great price. And the money goes back to our schools.
NEISD's PTA Council is hosting its annual Used Book Sale at Blossom Athletic Center. There are almost 80,000 books covering the floor of Littleton Gym. The sight is breathtaking.
"This has become a community event," said Stacy Husted, chair of the Used Book Sale. "People look forward to this event all year."
In a way, it's almost a world-wide event. Husted said some people come from Mexico to send books back to families there. Some of the books are sent to schools in the Philippines.
PTA's from NEISD schools collect books, volunteer time to sort and organize, and then work the sale. Students from The Academy of Creative Education also volunteer to set up for the event.
Books are $1 for hardbacks and $.50 for paperbacks. The selection is endless: romance, biography, history, fiction, non-fiction, children's books. There are cookbooks, self-help books, and more.
The sale is open to the public April 5-6 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, April 7 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday is Bag Day -- $15 for the first bag and $10 for each additional bag of books.
