USDA presents NEISD with health award
NEISD's mission to be healthier has been noticed by leaders in Washington. Five NEISD schools earned the HealthierUS Schools Challenge (HUSSC) certification from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).
At an awards assembly on Tuesday, May 7, Dellview Elementary School and Harmony Hills Elementary School earned the Gold level HUSSC award. Eisenhower Middle School and Redland Oaks Elementary School earned Silver level awards. Lopez Middle School earned the Bronze level.
Deputy Undersecretary Janey Thornton, USDA, and Angela Olige, Chief Administrator of the Texas Department of Agriculture's Food and Nutrition Programs presented school leaders with their certification and medals.
They toured Dellview and met with students and cafeteria employees. Students shared how they choose to be healthier by eating right and exercising.
The HealthierUS School Challenge is part of First Lady Michelle Obama's Let's Move! campaign. NEISD has the most schools with the HUSSC certification in the San Antonio area.
