Transportation hosts national competition
DATE:
sept. 29
TIME: 9 am & 1 pm
LOCATION: NEISD’s Transportation North Terminal, 24000 Hwy 281 N
NEISD and the Texas Association of School Bus Technicians will host the national competition to find “America’s Best School Bus Technician and Inspector” sponsored by the National Association for Pupil Transportation (NAPT).
NAPT Executive Officials, and more than 60 competitors in the school bus maintenance industry from across the nation will attend.
NEISD will have one mechanic representing the State and the district in the national competition: Dave Ogg – Troubleshoot (lst place State).
The competition will include a timed-written exam and a timed-hands-on diagnostics for both technicians and inspectors. The written portion includes 40-50 questions on topics such as electrical systems, brakes, engines, suspensions, drive trains, and body systems.
The diagnostics exam for technicians requires them to troubleshoot and identify mechanical deficiencies in three different school bus components/systems in under 15 minutes each. The competitor will be required to provide in detail, the cause of the specific defect or the proper techniques for correcting the defect.
The diagnostics exam for inspectors requires them to find the 30 defects or “bugs” to the bus in under 45 minutes.
