Silver and Black Give back to NEISD schools
Harris Middle School and Vineyard Ranch Elementary School earned $2,500 from the Silver and Black Give Back's initiative The Team Up Challenge Monday, October 20. Twenty semi-finalist teams were selected and each received $2,500 for their projects.
The Green Team at Harris will use the money to grow it's community garden. Students want to start hosting community gardening classes and a farmer's market.
Vineyard Ranch's team of 3rd graders will use its $2,500 for a service project, Love Note Pillows. Students in the Learners to Leaders program will make pillows for children in the hospital. The pillows will have a pocket stuffed with a note, a poem, and a picture.
At the event, students from 20 schools were greeted by R.C. Buford, general manager of the Spurs, and Chuck Cureau, Spurs' in-arena host. There was a video message from Spurs player Matt Bonner. Silver Dancers, TBone, and the Fox were also there to cheer on the semifinalists.
Silver and Black Give Back is a public charity that supports youth led service programs in San Antonio and South Texas. The Team Up Challenge is the service based learning initiative of the Silver and Back Give Back.
