Stahl students learn safety tips, care for community
On October 8, 2009, the "We Care Community" Club at Stahl Elementary held an after school meeting with a special presentation about Stranger Danger and Halloween Safety for second graders. Parents and students alike learned important safety tips from San Antonio Police Department Officer Gordan Keogh.
"It was a very eye opening experience for both children and parents," said Mrs. Hart, PTA president and parent of a second grader. "Officer Keogh was great with the students, sharing valuable information in a kid-friendly way."
Her daughter learned, “if you get taken by someone, poke them in the eyeballs, so they let go of you. When they let go, run away as fast as you can."
Alex Wicker, another member of the "We Care Community" Club, said, "I learned that if someone grabs you, punch them in the stomach so they let go of you."
The school would like to thank Officer Keogh for teaching them how to be safe.
Additionally, the "We Care Community" Club participated in community service with a campus clean-up project. Parents, teachers and students all worked together after school to pick-up the trash on campus. "It was important because it made our planet a better plac," said Alaina, member of the "We Care Community" Club. "Thanks to the efforts, Stahl is a cleaner campus."
