STEM students find fun in technical reading
Often students find the reading of technical writings to be a tedious and dreaded task; however, the eighth grade Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Academy math/algebra students learned this task can be fun, challenging, and exciting. They read and followed the instructions on how to make a dualized polyhedron with straws and ribbon.
"There were moments of difficulty, but the desire to complete the project became stronger than the frustration encountered," said Robin Sedgwick, teacher. "In addition to completing the task, the students realized they are capable of accomplishing more than they realized they could."
