stem students compete at science and engineering fair
Following a rigorous schedule of research, 13 STEM Academy students competed in the 2013 Alamo Regional Science and Engineering Fair at St. Mary’s University on March 4, 2013. More than 600 regional students competed in 12 different categories ranging from Chemistry to Zoology.
At the regional event, each student presented their research and findings to a panel of judges with careers in the student’s field of research. Awards are given for each of the 12 different categories, as well as over all grand prizes in Health, Biological and Physical Sciences for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th place.
The following STEM students placed in the senior division:
Jocelyn Hernandez, 1st Place Grand Prize in Fair I; Over $100,000 in scholarships
Gabby Luna, The US Army award for Outstanding Science Project
Jonathan San Roman The US Army award for Outstanding Science Project
Pierre Ferrer, 2nd Place in Behavioral and Social Science
American Psychology Association of San Antonio award for Outstanding Science Project
Nathaly Salazar, 2nd Place in Microbiology
Bryce Weathers, 3rd Place in Computers and Mathematics
Andres Guerra, 5th Place in Physics
Students will advance to the State ExxonMobil Science and Engineering Fair on March 26.
