STEM Robotics team earns award

The Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Academy robotics team "Backward METS" was presented the Gracious Professionalism core value award at the BrackenBot Alamo Qualifier Tournament on Saturday, Dec. 1. Top performance at the event is a requirement to advance to the Alamo Regional FIRST LEGO LEAGUE competition at the Henry B. Gonzales Convention Center next spring.

The FIRST LEGO LEAGUE (FLL) challenge is to solve senior citizen problems through research and development. The Backward METS are addressing daily tasks that are difficult due to arthritis. They were distinguished as the team whose members "show each other and other teams respect at all times and recognize that both friendly competition and mutual gain are possible, on and off the playing field."
