Roosevelt JROTC host annual Patriots Day ceremony
On the morning of September 11, 2012 the Roughrider Battalion hosted a ceremony to pay tribute to those who perished, were injured, and the families that were affected during the attacks. Students, faculty, and staff attended the morning remembrance along with the 160 cadets that make up the battalion. The master of ceremonies, Cadet Captain Samantha Lea spoke upon service to communities, neighborhoods, and values that exemplify patriotism. Rough Rider graduate Admiral William McRaven was noted in the ceremony for planning and leading the raid that led to the death of Osama bin Laden on May 1, 2011. The ceremony continued with the raising of the American flag to “half-staff” in honor of those who have perished.
