Roosevelt Leo Club wins prestigious award

In October the Roosevelt High School LEO Club received the prestigious LEO CLUB EXCELLENCE AWARD at a ceremony attended by members of the LEO Club, their families, their faculty sponsor Lisa Alanis, Principal Melvin Echard, Vice Principal Allen Pruiett, and officers and members of the Windcrest Lions Club and Lions International.  This is the highest award granted to LEO Club worldwide.

LEO Clubs considered for this esteemed award must have demonstrated superior performance in serving others, developing and executing creative fundraisers, exercising effective leadership, enhancing the public image of LEO clubs, completing administrative operating.   Primarily the LEO Club must show an outstanding record of serving within their community.

The Roosevelt LEO Club excelled in all these areas. It was nominated to the Lions Club District 2-A2 and was chosen from among all the LEO Clubs in the District and was then recognized at the national level.  The Windcrest Lions Club also was recognized for sponsoring this exceptional Club.

Alanis was recognized for her unparalleled contribution in making the LEO Club successful.  According to members of the Lions Club, Alanis, an outstanding educator, is able to delicately balance fun, student recognition, and love for community in the LEO Club members.

Echard received the award on behalf of the school. The Roosevelt LEO Club inducted more than 30 new members each of the past two years and continues to grow and serve. It is the largest LEO Club in south Texas Lion District 2-A2.

The LEO Club motto is:
