Roosevelt art students earn scholarships to art academy

Roosevelt art students Tyler Bantz, Gerardo Gomez, and Frances Mesko, were selected to receive the prestigious Kerrville Western Art Academy Scholarship.

More than 200 students from the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo Art Competition had the opportunity to apply and interview for this scholarship. This scholarship is valued at more than $3,000. All student fees, instruction, and room and board will be covered by this scholarship.

The program is a collaboration between the Kerrville Museum of Western Art and Schreiner University which offers college course credits for completion of the program. These students will attend this four-week residence program this coming summer. The students will learn valuable painting and sculpting techniques from some of the most qualified, professional and traditional western artists in the country.

"This is the only program of its kind in the nation and it is an honor to be chosen to attend," said Gloria Hill, NEISD director visual art and elementary music director.
