Roosevelt celebrates hosa week

DATE: nov. 2-6
TIME: varies
LOCATION: Roosevelt hs, football field, 5110 walzem rd.

The Roosevelt High School Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA) Club will invite Air-life and local emergency fire and ambulance departments to campus in celebration of National HOSA Week.

The week long educational spotlight will kick off on November 2 with an Air-life helicopter landing on the football field. The Windcrest Fire Department and San Antonio ambulance services will also be involved in the activities of the morning.

Roosevelt ROTC will lend a hand to help secure the field for the safe landing and lift-off of Air-life to give students an opportunity to tour and learn about emergency medical careers and opportunities available to enter these fields of medicine.

The rest of the week will include healthy snack give-aways after school on Tuesday, Blood Pressure checks on Wednesday, a celebration of School Nurses on Thursday, dress up as medical personnel on Friday, and a field trip to the University of Texas Health Science Center for hands-on action at the annual Science Expo and Fair on November 7.

The sixty-plus membership club meets each Thursday in Saber Hall and is active in campus recycling efforts, as well as competition practice for on-line testing in December and regional events to be held in January 2010. Roosevelt HOSA officers putting together the week's activities are Nicole Delgado (president), Jessica Eckelberger (vice president), Michael Bolding (secretary), Emily Rocamontes (treasurer), Quynh Nguyen (historian), and Elizabeth Mandujano (parliamentarian).
