Roan forest walks for technology, raises $13K
Students at Roan Forest Elementary had fun staying fit as they spent an hour walking for new technology for their school at this year's annual Walk-a-thon. The Roan Forest PTA chose to use the money raised from their annual Walk-a-thon to help the school complete a class set of Apple iPad 2s. By having a set of iPad 2s that the teachers can check-out, every child at Roan Forest will benefit from hands-on interactive learning together.
"Bringing this new technology to our school is very important to our students and community who contributed an amazing $13,000 to the cause," said Michelle Noel, PTA Walk-a-thon committee chair.

In addition to individual pledges, companies and families could sponsor an entire class. The Roan Forest class sponsors were Mr. & Mrs. Phil Anderson; Camp Bow Wow; Cibolo Canyons Veterinary Hospital; Mr. & Mrs. Brian Craft; Insure One Insurance Agency, In Honor of Liz's Dad - Darrell Irwin - serving in Afghanistan; Out on a Limb Tree Care; Philly's Phamous; Rhino Graphics; Scott Noel - partner of Richie & Gueringer, P.C.; Salute Oral and Facial Surgery Center; Texcops; and TouchMath.
"We have amazing children who were excited to help raise money for technology," added Noel. "These children learned that not only does Walk-a-thon help our school but the rewards are fun too. The 20 children that raised over $200 get to silly string the Roan Forest Principal Dr. Melissa Alcala, who is obviously very passionate about her kids and technology at Roan Forest!"
