Reagan orchestra makes Texas premiere of a Schoenberg piece
TIME: 7 - 8 p.m.
LOCATION: Chapel at the Oblate School of Theology, 285 Oblate Drive
The Reagan High School Chamber Orchestra will present the Texas premiere performance of a composition by Arnold Schoenberg on Tuesday, October 9. This selection will be performed as part of a concert including another lesser known work for string orchestra called Momentum Suite for String Orchestra by Peter Hope, and the second movement of the String Quartet No. 8 by Shostakovich.
The Notturno for Strings and Harp (Schoenberg) was composed in 1896, and was a hidden gem until its recent discovery in the Moldenauer Archive. Since its publication in 2001, it has only been performed in New York City, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Portland, Oregon in the United States.
The Reagan Orchestra is proud to bring this beautiful work to light in the state of Texas, and hopes that it will become part of the standard string repertoire in the near future.
