Reagan Publication Students Win National Awards
Nine Reagan High School publication students in Advanced Journalism Yearbook and Newspaper attended the JEA/NSPA 2011 Fall National High School Journalism Convention on November 17-20 in Minneapolis, MN.
The "Recorder," lead by Junior Editor-in-Chief Kristina Seavers and Junior Assistant Editor McKenna Harford, placed eighth among hundreds entered in the online newspaper Best of Show category. This makes the "Recorder" one of the best represented online newspapers in the nation.
Individual write-off competitions were also a part of the convention. All nine students entered contests ranging form photography, news and feature writing and design.
Senior Yearbook Editor-in-Chief Annie Maropis won an award of Excellent in Yearbook Inside Pages design, Junior Newspaper Editor-in-Chief Kristina Sevavers won an award of Excellent in News Feature Writing and Junior Yearbook Assistant Editor Carrisa Caldarola won an award of Superior in Yearbook Cover and Endsheet Design.
There were nearly 1,700 participants in the write-offs and the above students were among the 38 percent who received awards on the national level.
The national convention usually hosts about 4,000 high school journalism students. Sessions covering all aspects of scholastic journalism were offered and writing, design, broadcast, Literary Magazine, Advertising and photography contests were held on-site as well as for carry in.

Junior Yearbook Assistant Yearbook Editor Carrissa Caldarola designed this mock cover as a part of the Yearbook Cover and Endsheet Competition. She ranked Superior, which is the top award given for a write-off competition.
Carrisa was given the theme and basic school information from which she was to design an original cover and endsheets.

Senior Yearbook Editor in Chief Annie Maropis designed this mock yearbook spread as part of the Yearbook Inside Pages competition. She ranked Excellent, which is the second highest award given for a write-off competition. Annie was given stock images, the yearbook theme and basic school information from which she was to design a yearbook spread.
