oak grove collects shoes for Nicaragua

Oak Grove Elementary School is collecting new or gently used tennis/running shoes for children in Ometepe, Nicaragua who participate in Fuego y Agua, an annual children and adult race. To help, please bring your retired shoes to Oak Grove any time now through Nov.16, 2012.

On Oct. 16, Josue Stephens, race director for the event, will be here to speak to the students about Nicaragua and the race. He will give a presentation during the students' P. E. time, as well as answer any questions regarding this cause.

Last year Oak Grove, along with sister school Eisenhower Middle School collected over 300 pairs of shoes to send to Nicaragua. As part of the Leader in Me program Oak Grove students are encouraged to participate and demonstrate empathy towards other.
