Northwood receives $4,000 Fuel Up To Play 60 grant

DATE: nov 28
TIME: 5-7 pm
LOCATION: northwood es, 519 Pike Rd., New Gym, Black Top and Cafeteria

The Northwood Elementary community is committed to encouraging and setting the example of being physically fit and increasing the knowledge of healthy eating. On November 28, they will host a Tailgating party for students and their families to participate in activities that promote fitness and fun.

This is made possible through the school's Fuel Up to Play 60 grant of $4,000. During the Tailgating party, a professional chef will teach cooking classes.

Other than the Tailgaiting event, the grant will benefit the entire school in other ways, including constructing beds for the school's garden. Students will plant vegetables, fruits, and herbs and learn how these foods can be used for healthy eating. Teachers also had their photo taken and a poster was made with "Milk Mustaches" to encourage the consumption of dairy products. Families also have the opportunity to have their photo taken with "Milk Mustaches" at evening events at the school. Later in the spring, they plan to host a half day of health, nutrition and physical activity for the whole school. They will have all students rotate to the different stations. One station will include a rainbow of foods for students and staff to taste. Smoothies will be served as they combine fruit and milk. Another station will teach exercises. The third station will allow students to learn about their bones and the importance of dairy products for strong bones.
