NEISD high school students come together in Unity
DATE: Oct. 7
TIME: 9:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.
LOCATION: Piper Bass Student Center, 12002 Jones Maltsberger
North East ISD will host a Student Unity Conference for high school students on Friday, Oct. 7 from 9:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. at the Piper Bass Student Center. Under the theme “Built Tough,” students will learn resiliency skills in order to promote a safe and welcoming school climate.
About 200 students from across all NEISD high schools will attend the conference led by their Student Teacher Assistance Network (STAN) counselors. Steve Medel, a Peer Assistance Leadership and teacher trainer, will participate as guest speaker.
The Unity Conference will teach students to improve relationships among their peers from different cultural, ethnic and religious backgrounds; communicate in peaceful and productive ways; create a welcoming and safe school climate; and provide the necessary skills to speak out against hate and injustice. Students will also develop an action plan to implement throughout the year. The students who are attending were selected based on their leadership skills, ability to influence their peers and willingness to spread the message of peace and acceptance back at their campus.
