NEISD earns TEA Recognized status third year in a row

Most Exemplary high schools in San Antonio

July 30, 2010 -- North East ISD received notification today from the Texas Education Agency (TEA) that 87 percent of the district’s schools earned the two highest accountability ratings of Exemplary or Recognized -- an increase over the previous year. The district also received the designation of Recognized for the third year in a row, making it one of the largest districts in the state to receive this rating.

NEISD has 25 campuses rated as Exemplary and 30 schools rated Recognized for the 2009-2010 school year. Only 8 campuses were rated Academically Acceptable, and no campuses in the district received a rating of Academically Unacceptable.

“We have continued to make gains in the number of Recognized and Exemplary campuses and are proud that more of our schools earned the two highest ratings,” said Associate Superintendent / Chief Instructional Officer Dr. Alicia H. Thomas. “Teachers, students, principals and parents all worked hard to achieve this. Our high schools, in particular, did well with all of them achieving Exemplary or Recognized status.”

For the first time, NEISD has three Exemplary high schools. These are the International School of the Americas, Johnson High School and Reagan High School. All other high school campuses were rated Recognized.

For 2010-2011, the district will once again work closely with school administrators to meet its instructional goal for all schools to be rated Recognized or Exemplary.
