neisd partners with the fbi
When Associate Superintendent of Campus Support and Human Resources Dr. Mark Scheffler was asked to join the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s (FBI) Citizen’s Academy in the summer, a partnership with the district soon evolved.
The FBI Citizen’s Academy is open to business, civic and community leaders. Classes meet over a series of weeks and participants learn the mission and objectives of the FBI. The goal of the program is to enable the FBI to stay better attuned to the needs and issues of its communities. Participants become more willing to call with information that could help solve or prevent crimes, become “ambassadors” of the FBI who dispel myths and misunderstandings about the bureau, and often join in public safety initiatives.
“After learning the scope and range of what the FBI does, I thought it was imperative to share that information with the administrators and staff of North East ISD,” said Scheffler. “With so many children in our care, both in our classrooms and homes, it is crucial that we learn as much as we can about how to keep our district and its residents safe.”
FBI personnel delivered an eye-opening presentation to NEISD principals and counselors on Oct. 13 on topics, such as cyber crime and child predators. The goal is to organize more informative sessions with more staff and Parent Teacher Association members in the months to come.
