NEISD Library Services presented with national award

NEISD Library Services was named the National School Library Program of the Year and was presented with their award at a reception on Oct. 12 at Harris Middle School, library.

Superintendent of Schools Dr. Brian Gottardy delivered a welcome greeting at the award presentation. Two students from Wetmore Elementary School addressed the audience. Representatives from Follett Library Resources, sponsor, presented the award to NEISD Library Services Director Ric Hasenyager.

NEISD has been awarded the distinction as the 2011 National School Library Program of the Year by the American Association of School Librarians (AASL). NEISD was one of three national finalists for this award. The AASL evaluated library programs based on budget, staffing, instruction/collaboration elements, consistency across all campuses, and more. This is the most prestigious award that is given to a school library organization.

As part of this award, NEISD Library Services received $10,000 for the benefit of the district’s library program.
