neisd students win at Japanese speech contest
The 24th Annual Texas State Wide Japanese Language Speech Contest was held on Mar. 9 at Rice University in Houston. Students studying Japanese at Churchill and Johnson high schools won third place in Division 1 (poetry recitation for beginner level ), second and third place in Division 2 (poetry recitation for intermediate level), and third place in Division 3 (free speech).
The students spent time before and after school, and during lunch preparing for the contest. All their hard work paid off. Here are the results:
Poetry Beginner: 3rd place -- Claire Nesbitt (10th grade, Johnson High School)
Poetry Intermediate: 2nd place -- Maricruz Flores Carlos (10th grade, Churchill High School)
3rd place -- Nghi Truong (11th grade, Johnson High School)
Free Speech Intermediate: 3rd place -- Aleksa Diaz (12th grade, Churchill High School)
