neisd students learn to live fat talk free
North East ISD has partnered with the Eating Disorder Center at San Antonio (EDCASA) to help teach and promote the only district-wide Fat Talk Free program in the state. The program is being taught in conjunction with Fat Talk Free Week, which is Oct. 22-26. The program is being taught to sixth graders at all middle school campuses. More than 5,000 students across the district will spend the week learning this important message.
Fat Talk Free Week is a program that teaches the harmful impact of negative body image and low self-esteem that arise as a consequence of Fat Talk. The program empowers people to change the conversation. Fat Talk Free supports healthy conversations for healthy minds and bodies.
During the week, EDCASA presenters will come into NEISD sixth-grade health classes to give a lesson on the harmful effects of Fat Talk. There will be three interactive activities that will help students learn how to change the conversation from Fat Talk to statements that help us have a healthy body image and self-esteem. The presentations will last the entire class period.
