DRT honors neisd student and teacher
The Alamo Couriers Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas recognized Redland Oaks Elementary School student Robyn Oson and Harris Middle School teacher Gary Livingston at their annual award’s ceremony on Tuesday, May 27. Chapter President Martha Fleitas highlighted that the competition’s purpose is to recognize outstanding achievement in perpetuating the memory and spirit of the men and women who achieved and maintained Texas’ independence.
Chapter Education Chairman Dr. Amy Jo Baker invited Robyn to read her essay on the Alamo to all those present. Robyn was then recognized as the second place winner from all the 4th grade entries submitted. Robyn was accompanied by her mother Dawn Nash, teacher Kim McManus, and principal Dr. Mary Longloy.
The event was highlighted by the Daughters’ recognition of Gary Livingston as the Outstanding Texas History Teacher, noting that he is very passionate about teaching history and makes Texas history come alive for his students. He often presents his lessons dressed as the historic figure he is teaching. Livingston was accompanied by his principal Dr. Sean Maika.
