NEISD cheer teams take state

Johnson Varsity Cheerleaders win First State ChampionshipThis past weekend, the several NEISD high school cheer teams took home first place honors in various divisions at the UCA Texas State Championship in San Marcos, TX. Johnson won first place for the Large Varsity division, Madison won first place (for the fifth consecutive year) in the Small Varsity Division and Lee earned first in the Medium Varsity Non-Tumbling division. Madison also took home first in the Small Junior Varsity division and Churchill earned first in the Junior Varsity Co-ed division.

Small Varsity:

  • Madison - 1st Place - fifth consecutive year for 1st at State

  • Johnson - 4th Place

Junior Varsity Co-ed - Churchill - 1st Place

Squads are continuing to train and rehearse for UCA National competition in Orlando, Florida, February 8 - 11, 2013.

"Best of luck to these outstanding cheerleaders and their dedicated coaches," said Diana Schumacher, executive director of Fine Arts & Student Activities.

This coming weekend, January 26-27, the Johnson pep squad, cheerleaders, dance team, and drill team will join spirit groups from across the district in performing at Blossom Athletic Center in the district spirit show: One Singular Sensation. Visit for more information.
