NEISD high school basketball update
Basketball season is well underway and several North East teams have had outstanding pre-district results. In girl’s basketball, the Reagan Rattlers are rated number one in the area with a record of 18-0. The Reagan girls won the Northside/Lone Star Tournament. The Lady Rattlers have played a tough schedule against many of the other top teams in the area. With an experienced team returning from a state tournament berth last year, the Lady Rattlers have made the right moves in the final minutes of every close game.
Churchill, Johnson, Roosevelt and Madison have also gotten off to a good start. The Lady Chargers stand at 16-3 with the Lady Jaguars from Johnson right behind them at 14-4. Roosevelt’s record is 13-6 and Madison is at 14-7. District 26-5A play begins on Friday, December 14. Preseason indicates that there will be an outstanding race for the four playoff positions in girl’s basketball.
Boy’s basketball has also gotten off to a good start. 26-5A play for the boys will begin one week later than the girls. At this stage in preseason play, Churchill is one of the top teams in the area with a record of 17-1. The Chargers won the North East/Lone Star Tournament. Also getting off to a good start is Reagan with a record of 12-2, Madison at 11-7 and MacArthur also at 11-7.
It should be noted that Madison and MacArthur with seven losses have competed against some strong teams in the area and both the Mavericks and the Brahmas have excellent squads. The Churchill and Reagan boys teams both won big games this past week and indicate they’re ready for district play. The boys race in 26-5A promises to provide excellent basketball for North East fans.
