Army JROTC Drill Teams and Color Guard Teams from the 5th Brigades eight state footprint will compete in the 5th JROTC Brigade Drill Team Championships with the top 10 teams in each category of “Armed” and “Unarmed” Drill Teams advancing to the Army JROTC National Championships in Louisville, Kentucky in April 2013. The North East ISD JROTC department will host the meet sponsored by the 5th ROTC Brigade, Fort Sam Houston, TX.
The best 27 high school JROTC programs, representing the top 42 drill teams from Utah, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado and Texas will compete.
The competition will take place in Exhibition Hall A and Ballroom of the Henry B. Gonzales Convention Center in San Antonio, Texas.
This is the second annual event for the 5th Brigade Army JROTC to distinguish a true champion in the discipline of regulation and precision (fancy drill) in two categories of “Armed” (with demilitarized drill rifles) and “Unarmed” drill performances.
Additionally, competitive Color Guard teams will vie for Championship honors through inspections, knowledge tests and the snap and precision of colors presentation. The competition was open to the best of the best competitive drill teams in the eight state (Arkansas, Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas, Utah and Wyoming) area of operations for the Army’s 5th ROTC Brigade.
This competition was won by both the Armed and Unarmed JROTC Drill Teams from MacArthur High School in February 2012 and went on to win both categories of the Army National JROTC Drill team championships in Louisville, Kentucky. Both of the MacArthur Drill Teams will be in the competition again in 2013 in search for another Championship.
The event is open to the pubic.
