team NEISD is gearing up for rock 'n' roll marathon

Team NEISD is participating in the Get Fit Challenge as part of the San Antonio Rock 'n' Roll Marathon and 1/2 Marathon on Sunday, November 13, and they have been gearing up for months!

Team members have the choice of running or walking the half or full marathon.  The half is 13.1 miles and the full is 26.2 miles. Prizes are awarded to the three largest teams in their respective divisions. Being a part of Team NEISD means each member will receive support, motivation and camaraderie.

Team captains Danielle Muckleroy and Susan Tourk put together a training calendar for both the half and the full, and they have organized and led the Saturday morning (6:30 a.m.) long-team runs. Team captain Melissa Munsell has also been busy working behind the scenes with many organizational tasks.

On marathon day, Team NEISD members will be sporting bright yellow team running shirts with the Team NEISD logo.

A team celebration will be held on Tuesday, November 15 at 4:30 p.m. at Piper Bass.

Go Team NEISD!

Additionally, NEISD elementary and middle school students have been given the opportunity to participate in Kids Rock San Antonio, which runs in conjunction with the San Antonio Rock 'n' Roll Marathon, powered by San Antonio Sports, which kicked off the week of September 18.

Kid's Rock is a non-timed, non-competitive event for children in grades K-7. Children complete a cumulative marathon training program which covers a period of eight weeks. Their suggested mileage, per week, increases from 1.75 miles in the first week of training to 4.2 miles in the last week of training, which totals 25.2 miles over eight weeks. They can become marathon finishers by completing their last mile, either at an event at their school on the last Friday of the event or by running in the San Antonio event on November 12 at Brackenridge Park as a registered participant. Overall, Kid's Rock enables the participants to run 26.2 miles, which is a full marathon distance, at their own pace and time.
