CAmelot Elementary Reads for the record

Real live llamas, from Sue Leslie's LLama Farm, came to visit Camelot Elementary to join the students in Read for the Record. This national initiative, celebrates the importance of early childhood literacy. Camelot joined the pledge to read the story, "Llama, Llama Red Pajama" to all of the K, 1st and 2nd grade students. After the story, students enjoyed visiting and petting a real live llama. Comparisons to the story book llamas and the the real life one, were made and fun was had by all.

Jackson-Keller Elementary Reads for the Record

On October 6, 2011, more than 650 Jackson-Keller Elementary (JK) Jackrabbits listened as their principal, Anna Nicolai, and a special guest read Llama Llama Red Pajama. The reading of the story was broadcast throughout the school on the school's new broadcasting system.

Ms. Nicolai along with little llama say its important to read to children on a daily basis. "Having children listen to an adult read is one of the most powerful tools for appreciating reading," commented Ms. Nicolai.

The students were engaged in the reading process because of the broadcast system, the costumes, the props, and the voice changes which added to the enthusiasm toward reading. Students showed their spirit of Read Around the School by wearing their favorite pajamas. JK staff members also joined in the trend.

The goal was to broadcast a whole school read-aloud so that different role models read to the students.
