Northwood holds 3rd annual Fairy Tale Battle
Northwood Elementary School held their third annual Fairy Tale Battle this past Thursday, October 25. This year's winner was Mrs. Howe's third grade class.
The students in the third grade study several different fairy tales. They must read carefully and pay close attention to story details for the particular versions selected for the battle. Re-reading is a must.
Students then have to take a test to be on the team that represents their classroom. Three team members and one alternate from each classroom are chosen to represent their team. The teams answer a series of questions in eight rounds, including bonus questions. The third grade teachers, Julie Howe, Kelly Richter, Diane Taylor, and Audrey Trevino and librarian, Sherry Philippus, dressed as their favorite fairy tale character. The judges were June Sharrer, Principal, Randy Barr, Assistant Principal and Anne Dickson, IIT.
"A special thanks to Coker Elementary for letting us use this great idea at Northwood," said Anne Dickson, Instructional Interventionist. "What a fun way to work on fluency and reading critically!"
