DATE: Aug 12
TIME: 11 am - 1 pm
LOCATION: NEISD Family Resource Center, 8438 Ahern Dr.

The NEISD McKinney-Vento Homeless Project receives a helping hand from Girl Scout Troop 1121 as they help stuff backpacks for the district’s homeless students. The Girl Scouts are from Stone Oak Elementary, Canyon Ridge Elementary and Wilderness Oak Elementary and have been volunteering with the McKinney-Vento Homeless Project as they work toward the Girl Scout Bronze Award.

The NEISD McKinney-Vento Homeless Project is committed to ensuring that all NEISD children and youth in homeless situations have the opportunity to attend, enroll in, and succeed in school. During the 2010-2011 school year, the McKinney-Vento Homeless Project served more than 1,071 homeless students and distributed over 642 backpacks and supplies while providing numerous other services.

The Girl Scouts are stuffing hundreds of backpacks with new school supplies, which were donated by the non-profit organization Feed the Children. Over the past few weeks, the Scouts also wrote notes to put in the new backpacks for incoming kindergartners.
