madison band performs at Disney world

After school let out for the summer, the Madison High School band was still hard at work. In June, they travelled to Orlando, FL to perform at Disney World. One of the highlights of their trip was performing in a parade down Main Street and around Cinderella's Castle at Disney's Magic Kingdom.

They also participated in the "You're Instrumental" workshop at Disney’s Epcot. The students had a guest clinician, who is a professional Disney musician and music educator, spend nearly three hours working with them. He discussed the process behind recording professional motion picture sound tracks, and took students through a selection of music from “The Lion King.”

“The kids were able to perform the music and watch a DVD with a movie clip synced with their sound track recording,” said Philip Flynn, Madison band director. “They had an absolute blast performing and visiting the Disney parks.”

Madison had to submit recordings and DVDs in order to be selected to perform as a featured band in the Disney parade. The Madison band program takes an out-of-state trip like this one every two years. This trip included more than 125 students, 16 chaperones and a dozen family members.
