Lopez collects pocket change, benefits Children's Shelter
DATE:
Nov. 1 - Mid-December
TIME: 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.
LOCATION: Lopez MS, 23013 Hardy Oak Blvd.
Lopez Middle School's sixth grade reading classes will collect change to benefit the Children's Shelter in San Antonio now through mid-December. This annual event, in collaboration with the KONO 101.1 Radio-a-thon, is the Change for Children Drive. Lopez reading students set a goal to raise at least $1,000. Donation jars will be setup in the foyer, library, and at the volleyball games.
The event is held in conjunction with reading the novel "Maniac Magee" by Jerry Spinelli, which is about a boy who is orphaned at a young age and later runs away from a bad home situation. He spends most of his life homeless and in search of a place where he belongs. He does not attend school, but is a voracious reader and a good influence on those he meets.
The KONO 101.1 Radio-a-thon takes place in mid-December to help those children who are like Maniac Magee and do not have a permanent home.
