Lee JROTC continues Thanksgiving Tradition
The Lee High School JROTC Cadets continued a Thanksgiving Day tradition that dates back over a decade. On Thanksgiving morning, 35 very excited cadets boarded a waiting bus and traveled to the Gonzalez Convention Center, in downtown San Antonio. They were also joined by last year’s cadet Battalion Commander.
Christian Ortiz, shown in his dress uniform and giving a pep talk to cadets prior to leaving the Armory.
"Our cadets were glad to see their former commander and to ask questions about life at Norwich University," said Lt. Colonel William Hendon.
Once at the Convention Center, cadets helped with a variety of tasks, including escorting guests, serving meals, Colors Presentation, and one other item. After getting everyone fed, cadets had fun cutting a rug--dancing--with guests.
That afternoon, the cadets, tired but happy, boarded the bus and moved back to the JROTC Armory at Lee--everyone knowing the continuous, multi-year tradition had continued unbroken, thanks to them.
"A special note, our bus driver was Mr. Bowers who has been driving Lee cadets to the Jimenez Dinner for at least 8 continuous years. We appreciate his service," said Hendon. (Bowers shown below)
