Lee JROTC stays active over summer

Lee High School JROTC leaders stayed active over the entire summer break--from flag retirement to officer training. Below is a summary of their summer activities.

On June 14, only a few days after the close of the school year, a Flag Retirement Ceremony was held. In the photo below, Lee JROTC Executive Officer Cadet Major Bryan Stanley directs this most dignified and respectful ceremony as other leaders conduct the actual 'retirement' or burning of the Flags.

Ten American and several Texas flags were retired. Before that could happen, each flag had to be properly prepared--each Stripe, Star, and Union were cut and placed in a controlled fire one at a time. A bell tolled for each individual Star.

The hot summer did not stop practice from happening. Physical Training and Rifle Teams, Stratford and Volunteer Drill Teams practiced continuously in the mornings, dodging the heat.

For a week in July, all key leaders attended Officer and 1st Sergeant Training. Pictured below are several cadets, listening intently to their Battalion Commander as Vice Principal Donald Poole and First Sergeant Hector Reyes (Lee's new Army Instructor) observe.

"This was the best summer leadership training I have seen in my 17 years as a Senior Army Instructor," said Colonel William Hendon, Lee army instructor. "Lee JROTC is off to a strong start for School Year 2011-2012."
