Lee JROTC Visits Pacific War Museum

The Lee High School JROTC Volunteer Battalion Corp of Cadets boarded buses on a cloudy morning and moved north to Fredericksburg. The weather was threatening with rain but "Mother Nature" was good to the Volunteer Battalion who managed to dodge all rain showers that day.

Museum curator, Major Richard Koone (Retired), wearing an authentic World War II (WWII) US Army uniform, greeted both buses at the Museum’s main entrance. Major Koone had set up the living history portion of the Museum and took one group there for his two hour presentation. It included such items as PT 309, an actual PT boat used in WWII.

WWII veteran and Museum volunteer Peter Henderson toured the main area with the second group. After lunch both groups rotated. Cadets enjoyed seeing events which shaped our country and led us into World War II and how the War was eventually won. After a very satisfying day, buses were boarded and returned to campus. "Visiting the Museum was an excellent educational experience," said Lt. Colonel Hendon. "Our thanks to Major Koone for a great day."
