New las lomas elementary school dedicated
Las Lomas Elementary School was filled with roaring lions November 14 for the school's dedication. Faculty, parents and students came together to show off their new school and celebrate its accomplishments.
Principal Alan Rochkus welcomed the audience to the festive event. He shared how the community came together to get the school ready to open in January. Superintendent of Schools Dr. Brian G. Gottardy and Board of Trustees Vice-President Letti Bresnahan congratulated the school on a successful opening.
Former students returned to take part in the ceremony. They joined current students to sing the school song together that is a sort of mission statement for Las Lomas.
"WE ARE THE LIONS, HEAR US ROAR! WE ARE LAS LOMAS, WATCH US SOAR! MAKING OUR TOMORROWS WITH WHAT WE LEARN TODAY. TAKING ON OUR FUTURES, LEADING ALL THE WAY! WE ARE THE LIONS, HEAR US ROAR!"
The Reagan High School band and orchestra were there to perform for visitors. The Las Lomas Honor Choir performed during the ceremony. Lee High School culinary students helped cater the reception.
Las Lomas is a Leader in Me School that teaches students to be leaders in the 21st century. Las Lomas is a certified LEED (green) school that features the latest technology and designs. The school has two mascots because the students suggested having a boy and girl lion. The school has a strong Watch D.O.G.S. program and supportive PTA.
The Las Lomas Honor Choir performed at the dedication ceremony.
Former student Markham Brown challenged students to "continue the legacy" for years to come.
Past, present, and future students stood on stage to sing the school song.
