NEISD students honored at San Antonio Founder's Day ceremony

Sixth-grade Bradley Middle School student Kyle Achilles, eighth-grade iMAK student Katherine Sotelo and current Roosevelt High School freshman Victoria Ludolph were honored at the San Antonio Founder's Day opening ceremonies on Saturday, Oct. 24. Achilles was the winner for the essay contest in her grade, while Sotelo and Ludolph placed first in the San Antonio Founder's Day Visual Arts Contest (deadline last April while Sotelo and Ludolph were in the seventh and eighth grade) for photography.

In addition to placing first, Achilles, Sotelo and Ludolph received $1,000 scholarships to Incarnate Word University for their winning essay and photograph.

Eighth grade iMAK student Shayna Walker and Roosevelt freshman Claire Marshall were also honored as runners up in their age groups.

Krueger Middle School received a $1,000 check for the photography program and two plaques for the winning entries.

Winning entries represented the impact of a cultural group on the history of San Antonio and were created in Brenda Marafioto's journalism/photography classes.
