krueger students win national photography awards
Krueger Middle School student photographers recently participated in the ATPI Fall Photo Contest. With 6,390 entries from more than 60 schools in Texas, New York and California, Falcon Photographers garnered eight awards competing against high school students.
Jordan Cornell (8th) won three awards, including a 1st Honorable Mention for Thematic-Blue, and two Honorable Mentions for his Still Life photos.
Rebekah Ornelas (8th) won 2nd place in Still Life.
Thomas Hopkins (8th) won 3rd place in Still Life.
Sarah Ramirez (7th) won 2nd place in News.
Lyndsay Elstak (8th) won 3rd place in Open.
Brianna Burkes (7th) won an Honorable Mention in Animal.
After studying proper composition, exposure, and post processing techniques, students in Brenda Marafioto's photography classes completed photo shoots both during and outside of class to capture images for this contest. Many of the winning entries were shot during a photoshoot field trip to downtown San Antonio.
"The field trip was fun, and I felt like a real professional photographer," 2nd place News Photo winner Sarah Ramirez said. "Learning how to edit my photos properly in class has also made me a better photographer."
Although Krueger students have been recognized in the ATPI contest for the past three years in a row, they have never had eight winners before.
"I am extremely proud of my students," Marafioto said. "They are competiting almost exclusively against high school students, and their hard work and creative skill truly shines through."
