Johnson Twirlers Achieve Success this Summer

The Johnson High School Twirlers have had a successful competition season, which began with local area contests, followed by NBTA Regional and State Championships, and culminating in America’s Youth on Parade (AYOP) National Championships held at the University of Notre Dame in July. Additionally, Micaela Campbell, Kelsey Eidson, Morgan Leach, and Libby Roach each scored a superior rating in her respective choreographed solo baton routine at the Region 12 UIL 5A Twirling Contest.

We say goodbye to graduating senior Micaela who will attend the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York. At NBTA State, Micaela won the Beginner 16+ Miss Majorette of Texas Pageant, qualifying her to compete in AYOP’s 16+ Beginner Pageant aside from individual open twirling events. Micaela also placed first in two-Baton and in the top three in X-Strut and Baton Solos in her division. Earlier this year, Micaela won the Beginner 16+ Miss Texas Twirler Pageant at the local area Corpus Christi contest.

Upcoming 2012-13 Feature Twirler and senior Kelsey has had a great year winning local area titles of Intermediate 16+ Miss Majorette of the Woodlands, Miss Spring Fling, and Miss San Antonio Twirling Festival. At NBTA State, she placed third in the Intermediate 16+ Miss Majorette of Texas Pageant and in the top three in two-Baton, three-Baton, X-Strut, and Baton Solos in her division. She’s looking forward to her senior year.

Incoming senior Libby placed in the top ten in the Beginner 16+ Miss Majorette of Texas Pageant and second in two-Baton. Libby also placed first in the Best Appearing modeling competitions at both NBTA State and local area San Antonio Twirling Festival. She will compete in individual open twirling events at AYOP.

Lincolnshire Posy twirler and five-time AYOP National Pageant qualifier Morgan will be a junior. Morgan was second runner-up in the Advanced 13-15 Miss Majorette of Texas Pageant, making her eligible to compete as Miss Majorette of Texas Royalty at AYOP in the Advanced Junior Miss Majorette of America Pageant and the Advanced 13-15 National Majorette Contest. Morgan scored superior ratings at both the Region 12 UIL 5A Twirling Contest and the UIL State Twirling Contest in Austin.

Incoming freshman Rebekah Gonzales has also had a great year winning the Duet and Presentation contests at both the NBTA Regional and State Championships. Rebekah placed in the top ten in the Intermediate 13-15 Miss Majorette of Texas Pageant and in the top three in X-Strut and Baton Solos. She also placed first in her division in 2 and 3-Baton at NBTA State.
