Johnson student performs with national Drum and Bugle Corps
Christian Serrano, a member of the Johnson High School Band, will perform this weekend with the nine-time World Champion Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps, at the DCI World Championships in Indianapolis, Indiana. The corps is currently ranked in first place going into the finals, and will compete three times this weekend, August 11 - 13, in a battle for the 2011 Gold Medal. Serrano has the opportunity to be a part of The Cadets as they look to earn their 10th DCI World Championship in Indianapolis this weekend.
Serrano was selected from more than 400 high school and college aged musicians through a rigorous audition process that occurred during the months of November and December 2010. Because The Cadets are based out of Allentown, PA, Serrano traveled each month to rehearse with the corps in preparation for their 2011 summer tour. Previously, Serrano marched for a year with the San Antonio based Crossmen Drum and Bugle Corps.
The Cadets compete more than 40 times around the United States during the months of June, July, and August, spending most of the month of May preparing their competitive show. The Cadets' show, entitled "Between Angels and Demons," is a production of marching, music, dance, and choreography that tells the story of the eternal battle between good and evil.
An All-Area trumpet player and member of the Johnson Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band, Full Orchestra, and Varsity marching band, Serrano has spent the last year balancing responsibilities and commitments to multiple organizations.
Two Johnson alumni Derek Jahelka (class of 2011) and Jonathan Aguirre (class of 2010) are also marching with The Cadets, and representing NEISD with pride.
