Johnson student takes 3rd in national forensics tournament

On October 14-15, Sydney Scott of Johnson High School competed at the St. Mark’s School of Texas Tournament and placed in several categories. Students from 14 different states competed in debate and speaking events.

Sydney Scott had an outstanding showing in Extemporaneous Speaking. This is one of the few tournaments each year that allows students to enter both U.S. and International Extemp.

Sydney placed 3rd in U.S. Extemporaneous Speaking and 4th in International Extemporaneous Speaking. She received two “bids” and is now qualified for the prestigious Extemp Tournament of Champions.

Sydney was ranked the overall 3rd place winner at the St. Mark’s Tournament and received 30 points in the National Extemp points race and is currently tied for 9th place. Johnson High School is currently tied for 8th place in the national rankings.
