Jackson Middle School is teaming up with the National Football League, City of San Antonio Metropolitan Health District, and Dairy MAX to celebrate September's National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month. The school will hold the pep-rally event Fuel Up to Play 60 to show their commitment to improved nutrition and physical activity on September 20, 2011 at 10 a.m.

September is National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month, reminding Americans that instilling physical activity and healthy eating habits among our nation’s youth is more important than ever before. National Dairy Council (NDC), Dairy MAX and the National Football League are kicking off Fuel Up to Play 60 and celebrating the beginning of the 2011-2012 school year by demonstrating their commitment to making health and wellness a nationwide priority.

Fuel Up to Play 60 is an in-school nutrition and physical activity program launched by the NDC, Dairy MAX, and the NFL, in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). Fuel Up To Play 60 has also joined forces with the Let’s Move Salad Bars to Schools initiative.

“The new salad bars and milk barrels have been a great addition to our campus cafeterias. Both students and staff have really been enjoying the option of building their own salads,” says Meg Domas, executive director of School Nutrition Services. “We are excited about being able to provide them with the opportunity to make their own food selections."

Former NFL running back, Priest Holmes, an active San Antonio philanthropist, will make a special appearance at Jackson Middle School to support the school-wide pep rally and talk to children about eating healthy and being active for 60 minutes a day.
