Huebner teacher surprised with KENS TV's ExCEL Award

A teacher from Huebner Elementary School received a big surprise during a school assembly Dec. 4.  KENS 5 television anchor, Deborah Knapp presented Ms. Lisa Vieger with the ExCEL Award for excellence in teaching.

Ms. Vieger teaches fifth grade and has more than 20 years of experience in the classroom.  She starts every day with a compliment for every student.  She is passionate about what she does and is described as an invaluable asset who is a true leader in everything she does.

Ms. Vieger was presented with a golden apple trophy (made by the company who makes the Academy Awards) and a check for $1,000 from the San Antonio Credit Union (SACU).

“This is such a surprise!  I work with a team of teachers that inspires me and makes me want to come to work every day – they are so amazing.  This award is for all the teachers here,” said Vieger.

The ExCEL Award program recognizes an outstanding teacher chosen by each of 19 greater San Antonio public school districts and Ms. Vieger is the NEISD winner for 2012-2013.  Watch for a story on KENS 5 on Thursday, Dec. 6. at 6 p.m.
