Garner club receives utsa donation
The Go-Getter College Club at Garner Middle School is proving they
are go-getters. At its regular meeting on Feb. 8, athletes from the
University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) presented the club with 150
college shirts.
Go-Getter College Club member Emma Felps and her parents were
recognized for starting the initiative to get college shirts donated.
They will be given to students who can not afford shirts to wear on
college shirt Fridays.
"We asked our friends and families, and they asked their friends
and families for donations," said Christina Felps, mother of Emma
Felps.
The family then started a Facebook page that was noticed by UTSA.
UTSA athletes Dempsey Thornton and Ferrington Macon presented the
students with 150 UTSA T-Shirts. They spoke to students about the
importance of doing well in school, scholarships, and the college life
of athletes.
The school promised to bring shirts to other schools with spirit day until they run out of shirts.
